Geographical LocationHaiyan County is located in the southeast of the Yangtze Delta, halfway down China’s eastern coast, bordering the dish shaped Basin of Tai Lake. It is east of Hangzhou Bay, southwest of Haining and north of both Pinghu and Jiaxing. It is located at 30°21'N~30°38'N and 120°43'E~121°02'E. It is 100km from Shanghai, 98km from Hangzhou, 120km from Suzhou and 100km from Ningbo. Geological ConditionThe inland part of Haiyan County is located on a heave which was formed at the end of Permian Period (250 million years ago). The current stratum is mainly sea sediment of grayish black silt clay, below it is land and river sediment of grayish green, rust yellow clay and sand. The total depth of these layers is about 100-200 meters. The ground can bear about 8-13T/m2, the geological structure is stable, and the factory construction work needs no piling. ClimateHaiyan is located in the south of the northern subtropical zone and belongs to the typical East Asia monsoon climate. The annual average temperature is 15.9℃ and high-temperature days are fewer than in those cities along the middle and downstream of Yangtze River which are at the same latitude. The annual average precipitation is 1,200mm. The frost-free season is about 240 days, and the annual sunlight time is about 1,920 hours. HydrologyThe total length of Haiyan’s river is 1,900km, with 3.71km of water every square kilometer. The river width is generally about 35 meters, and around 100 meters at its widest. The daily average water level is 2.74 meters. |
