Haiyan historyThe historic county of Haiyan was established in 222 B.C. and is famous for “the broad seashores and saltpans”. The county also enjoys the fame of “a land of fish and rice, the city of silk and satin, the origin of culture, and a city of nuclear power”. Haiyan is a dynamic county with talented people. The national 4A Grade tourist attraction, NanBei Lake, enjoys the fame of being the back garden of the Yangtze River Delta. Qiyuan Garden, one of the top ten most famous national parks in China, is located in the cultural exhibition center of Haiyan County. In the early 1980s, Mr. Bu Xinsheng, president of Haiyan Shirts Factory, was a man of his day when China’s enterprises in cities and towns initiated the reform and opening up strategy. The contemporary publisher Zhang Yuanji, the modern cartoonist Zhang Leping and the writer Yu Hua were all from Haiyan. Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, which is China’s first nuclear power station to be designed and built domestically, is located in Qinshan Town in Haiyan. Hangzhou Bay Bridge New AreaHaiyan Hangzhou Bay Bridge New Area was built by the port after the emergence of the grand bridge as a response of Haiyan’s County Committee and Government to the construction of Hangzhou Bay Cross-Sea Bridge. It is a new coastal industrial zone which is focused on the planning and construction of the Hangzhou Bay economic development area. It is located in the northern bridgehead of Hangzhou Bay Cross-Sea Bridge, with Hangzhou Bay to the south and Liupingshen Canal to the north.
